Multi-Unit Dwellings Can Be A Nightmare When Bed Bugs Are Biting

Bed bug infestations are difficult for homeowners to deal with when they are in a single family home.  When bed bugs are present in multi-unit dwelling, they are impossible to control without the help of a licensed pest control professional who has experience in bed bug removal services.  Bed bugs are masters at hiding in any crack or crevice.  They can infest your bed, dressers, furniture, curtains, wall hangings, carpets, baseboards, electrical outlets, and even your electrical items.  Nothing is off limits to this tiny little bloodsucking insect.

New Jersey pest control experts say that in multi-unit facilities, bed bugs pose additional challenges because they are able to easily slip through walls from unit to unit, terrorizing the entire building.  Once bed bugs are present, they use electrical wires and plumbing fixtures as a bed bug super highway to travel from unit to unit.

Upon the discovery of bed bugs in a multi-unit facility, many landlords choose to only provide treatment for the affected units.  This type of treatment plan is ineffective because often time’s bed bugs simply relocate to surrounding units once the treatment begins.  It only takes one pregnant bed bug to continue the lifecycle of the current infestation.  In some states, laws have been enacted that require treatment to be provided to units above, below, and on either side of the bed bug affected units.  Bed bugs are a hearty creature which has proven to be resistant to many types of insecticides. Treating surrounding units is a good practice to adhere to, but an even better practice would be to provide treatment to the entire building just in case a stray bed bug is able to escape the eradication process.
