Tripadvisor.com Sparks Bed Bug Lawsuit Part I Of II

New Jersey pest control experts can affirm that the incidents of guests finding bed bugs in hotels throughout the United States have risen over the past few years.  It’s not surprising that hotels have been hit hard with the nocturnal nibblers due to the constant turn-over of guests to their establishment.  Even with diligent bed bug inspection procedures set in place, a hotel can find itself free of bed bugs one day and infested the very next day after the departure of a bed bug ridden guest.

A couple from Massachusetts recently visited an Illinois hotel and claims that on their third day at the hotel they encountered a bed bug.  They claim that when they complained about the bed bug to the hotel manager, the hotel did not take the issue seriously.  The couple claims that the bed bug was discovered on the husband’s leg during the middle of the night.  They say that they immediately called the manager of the hotel who did offer to switch the family to a new room.  The couple claims that since they had two sleeping children coupled with the fact that they were departing the next morning, they chose to stay in the room where they found the bed bug.  The couple claims that upon departing the hotel the following morning they again advised the hotel about the bed bug that was found.  They say that the hotel advised them that they considered bed bugs to be very serious and would immediately look into the matter.

The hotel in question claims that once they were advised about the supposed bed bug, a maintenance crew was sent to inspect the room (after the family departed the hotel).  Reports are that the maintenance crew did not find any problems with the room.  The hotel claims that they also contacted a pest control company, which in turn inspected the room in question.  According to reports “Not a single bed bug, dead or alive, was observed.”
