Top 50 Most Bed Bug Infested Cities In The US…How Does Your City Stack Up?

Bed bug infestations continue to plague citizens in the United States from east to west, north to south.  These nighttime nibblers are known to cause sleepless nightlights, allergic reactions (mild to severe), and costly extermination expenses.  Municipalities throughout the United States are beginning to wake up to the threat of bed bug infestations and are scrambling to enact bed bug related laws that will protect residents, landlords, hoteliers, and businesses alike.

In August of 2010, Orkin provided a list of the 10 most bed bug infested cities in the United States.  This list was compiled based up the amount of bed bug treatments that were administered by Orkin’s 400+ nationwide offices.  The top 10 most infested cities in order were:

Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Washington, DC; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Dayton, OH; and Baltimore, MD.

Terminix also released a list that highlighted cities with the most bed bug infestations in the United States.  Here are the top 10 cities from their list in August of 2010.

New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Detroit, MI; Cincinnati, OH; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Columbus, OH; Dayton, OH; Washington, DC; and Los Angeles, CA.

Orkin’s newly released rankings of the most bed bug infested cities is likely a more accurate depiction of bed bug infestation rates as it covers the time period of January through April 2011.  The current top 10 cities in the United States are:

Denver, CO
Detroit, MI
Washington, DC
New York, NY
Dayton, OH
Philadelphia
Baltimore, MD
