Bed Bugs Still Biting According To The NPMA

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) and the University of Kentucky have three surveys of bed bugs for pest control professionals across the United States. According to more than 250 respondents, 99.6 percent have tackled the bloodsucking pests over the past year, which is an increase since the last time the survey was completed.

According to the NPMA, the majority of the pests were “found in private residences including apartments, condominiums and single family homes and the incidence of infestations in these environments is slightly higher compared to the 2011 findings.” According to the data collected “98 percent and 96 percent of respondents treating these dwellings respectively reported treating bed bugs in these types of settings” the last time the survey was completed in 2011.

Many other public locations throughout the United States continue to be in the cross-hairs for exterminators from coast to coast. Schools, day care centers, libraries, hospitals, transportation areas, Laundromats, and restaurants have seen more bed bug treatments according to the survey. Hotels, motels, college dorms, office buildings, airplanes, and movie theaters have seen a slight decline in bed bug treatments according to reports in the survey.

Despite the slight decline in some public areas, the report clearly shows the bed bugs are still biting throughout the US. These nuisance pests multiply very quickly and are easily spread in a wide variety of way thanks to their ability to hitchhike anywhere.
