Ants…Natures Scavengers

Ants are a summertime pest that no homeowner enjoys having in their yard or home environment.  There are many different types of species of ants that plague residents report NJ pest control professionals.  Despite the annoying behavior of ants, on some level, they are amazing creatures as well.

Fishing dead rodents out of our pool is a daily task.  The norm is a thirsty vole that accidently slips into the water and can’t find its way out.  Typically by morning, the filtration system maneuvers the creature into the skimmer basket and we are tasked with fishing the bloated rodent out of the pool.  Not wanting to attract other pests, it is supposed to be disposed of in a plastic bag in the trash receptacle.  My teenage daughter “forgot” about the last part of the skimmer cleaning job and instead dumped the skimmer basket contents in a leafy area near the pool.  On her trek out to empty the basket today she quickly came back inside to report that everyone should come and see what the ants were doing to the dead vole.

There were thousands of ants attacking the vole from every angle.  They had the entire body covered insomuch that the creature was barely recognizable.  Although you could not see the actual pieces of the vole disappearing, you knew that that was happening.  The ants were so ferocious that the entire vole moved up and down so heartily that it appeared to be breathing, which we knew was absolutely impossible!

Ants may be nature’s scavengers, but left to their own devices, they will multiply out-of-control and eventually infest your home.  A pest control professional in Ocean County, NJ can help you control ant infestations both inside and outside of the home.
