Bed Bug Infestations Can Give A Business A Bad Reputation Part II Of II

Continuing from Friday…

The ladies captured some of the bed bugs, took videos, and took pictures of the bugs, sheets, and pillows.  They also took pictures of the mattresses, which revealed the tell-tale signs of a full scale bed bug infestation…bed bugs and their excrement.

They claim that they immediately contacted the hotel staff, which informed them that they would need to contact the management company on Monday regarding the issue.  The ladies claim that they were not offered a new room, nor did any staff member visit their bed bug infested room.  You may read the article, see the pictures, videos, and the motels response to the media here.

If you are traveling, it’s important to check your entire hotel or motel room for the signs of bed bugs before you settle in for the night.  Bed bugs are elusive, sneaky creatures that typically strike during the wee hours of the morning when you are sleeping.  Because many people do not suffer the allergic reactions to the bed bug bite wounds, people may not even know that they have encountered bed bugs while traveling.  Additionally, bed bug bites can take as long as 10 days to appear upon your skin, so they are often misdiagnosed as well.  Bed bugs are masters at hitchhiking.  Their tiny size makes it easy for them to slip into any suitcase, laptop bag, purse, or backpack.  Any clothing provides ample hiding places for bed bugs too.

New Jersey pest control experts recommend that you never place your luggage or belongings on the floor, on the bed, or in the dresser drawers while on travel as these are all hot spots for bed bug activity.  Instead you should use the folding luggage rack and keep your luggage zipped shut when not in use.  Keeping your belongings in the bathroom is also a good alternative as bed bugs are not able to grasp onto the slick bathroom surface so they are rarely found in bathroom areas.

If you think you have encountered bed bugs while traveling, it’s imperative that you contact a licensed NJ pest control expert with experience in bed bug eradication as soon as possible.  Bed bugs multiply quickly so the earlier you begin to eradicate the bloodsuckers, the better!
