Bed Bugs Are Still Biting In the US

Bed bugs may not always make front page news, but rest assured, they are still alive and well in communities across the United States.  Despite previous news coverage and widespread information about the bloodsuckers that has been created, many people are still unaware of how the bugs are spread, and more importantly, how to eradicate the little vampires once they appear.

The DailyToreador.com reported on October 8, 2013 that students at Texas Tech’s Weymouth Residence Hall began receiving random bites soon after the semester began.  Those random bites quickly increased over time which is when maintenance was called.  A quick response was easy as maintenance was already in the housing facility checking out other rooms for hidden bed bugs.  It did not take long for the critters to be found and according to the Managing Director for University Student Housing, “When we become aware of bedbugs, we jump on it with both feet because we don’t want it to become systemic.”

Jumping right in to fight bed bugs is certainly the right decision, but choosing the way to fight the pests is equally as important.  Unfortunately the maintenance department chose to fight the pests by using “foggers” in the residence hall.  Foggers have been proven to be ineffective at killing bed bugs as they are not able to reach the areas where bed bugs congregate and hide.

The best way to kill bed bugs is to hire a pest control professional.  NJ residents with bed bugs are encouraged to contact a Monmouth County NJ pest control expert like Allison Pest Control.
