The Biggest Pests Come in The Smallest Sizes

Household pests are a common problem throughout the U.S., but the specific types of pests involved differ from state to state. Google recently put together a list of the pests that residents in each state do online searches for the most. This information indicates the most troublesome pests for different states.

In New Jersey, ants top the list. These tiny pests can turn into huge nuisances when they find their way inside homes through cracks and holes. Some can spread illnesses due to the bacteria and other germs they carry, while others can ruin food supplies. Certain ant species can even cause fire hazards by getting into household wiring or do damage to wood inside homes. New Jersey is home to several types of ant species, including carpenter ants, pharaoh ants, Argentine ants and odorous house ants. Carpenter ants, which tunnel through wood, are among the most common reasons for homeowners to call in NJ pest control professionals.

Ants are also the most commonly searched for pest in a few other states, including Virginia, Oregon and Maryland. In other states, the top pests are spiders, mosquitoes, bed bugs, mice and cockroaches. Bed bugs top the list in nearby New York, while spiders came in at number one in Connecticut.
