How to Detect the Presence of Mice in Your Home

Is That a Mouse in My House!?!
Is That a Mouse in My House!?!

Mice can cause a lot of damage to your home and increase your risk of catching salmonella and other serious diseases. It’s important to know what to look for if you think you might have a mouse infestation. Use the following tips to determine if these pests have invaded your home.

  • Check for droppings: Mice leave small pellets that have a pointed shape at the ends. These droppings typically appear in cabinets, pantries, counters and other areas where mice might search for food and water. If you do find any, make sure you disinfect the area after removing the droppings.
  • Look for holes: Check baseboards, foundations and the areas near doorways for holes that lead to mouse burrows. Keep in mind that these pests can fit through thin, tiny spaces.
  • Watch for wood shavings: Mice usually cause damage to homes due to their chewing. This also means that you should be on the lookout for wood shavings and tooth marks on wooden surfaces, such as doors and window casings.
  • Listen for sounds: You might be able to hear mice running around inside your walls, usually during the night. You might also hear them gnawing.
