Bed Bugs Biting at The NYC Department Of Health

Employees working at the New York City’s Department of Health in Long Island City are itching to get rid of some unwanted creepy critters that have been found in several locations throughout the building.  According to the Daily News on September 27, 2013, employees have been notified that bed bugs have been found and now employees have been asked to bag up their belongings.

According to the Department of Health, steps are being taken to kill the bloodsuckers which include, steam cleaning, vacuuming, additional inspections, and “applying small amounts of pesticides.”  Reports are that employees were made to sit through an hour long bed bug informational presentation when many wondered why the entire floor where the pests were found was not being cleaned instead.

Bed bugs can come from any place and attack any home or workplace.  The stigma of having the blood sucking creatures should be long gone, yet it still exists.  Bed bugs at the workplace can arrive via a person’s coat, hat, or gloves.  Gym bags, laptop bags, laptops and cellular phones make the perfect hiding place for a hitchhiking bed bug in the workplace. Even visiting a site in NYC with a bed bug problem may be putting your Monmouth County home at risk as you may carry eggs home inadvertently.

Some people believe that bed bugs are only nocturnal.  In actuality, while the work place is not their ideal choice of gaining a blood meal, bed bugs will come out to grab a bite to eat (on a person) once they are hungry enough.

You can best keep bed bugs away by hiring a Monmouth County, NJ exterminator who will check for bed bugs and treat any bloodsuckers that are found before they multiply out-of-control.
