NJ Ants Are Ready For A Seasonal Attack

NJ Ants survive the cold winter months quite well by spending their time underground where the temperatures do not freeze.  At the first sign of spring, worker ants will begin to emerge from their colonies, clearing the way for their nest-mates to come to the surface.

Many types of ants in New Jersey are considered to be nuisance pests as they make large and small colonies throughout lawns, planters, pots, and garden areas.  Unfortunately, many ants will eventually find their way into New Jersey homes.  A spill or crumb that is left unattended is an open invitation for these unwanted houseguests.  Once the scouts find food to bring back to the colony, they invite their friends to join the party as surely there will be more food to be found.

All types of ant species are constantly on the hunt for food, water, and shelter.  Some ant species prefer proteins, some prefer sweets, some prefer fats, but for the most part, any food substance that is available will attract ants to come indoors.  Even cat and dog food is a delicacy for ants.

Ants can gain easy access to homes during the spring when they find a tiny crack or crevice in the concrete, around a window sill, under flooring, and with firewood stacked up against a home.  Limbs or bushes that are touching a roof or side of a home make gaining access to higher points much easier.

Ant removal is not an easy job.  Practicing good sanitation and keeping plumbing in good working order is essential.  Even under the best of circumstances, it is always best to call a Monmouth County, NJ exterminator like Allison Pest Control.
