Bed Bugs Cause Itchy Nights For Syracuse Students

Students who go off to college have a considerable amount of stress on their plate.  Course selections, school work, study time, papers to write, financial worries, and even part time jobs to work.  One thing they should not have to worry about is having their blood sucked by an insect while they are sleeping.  Sadly, many college dorms become invaded by the pest year after year.  They come from students homes, or can be picked up from a hotel stop on the way to campus.  There is not usually a way to place their origin.  But once they arrive in a dorm room, they are a terrible pest to deal with.

CNYCentral.com reported on January 28, 2013 that two students who are residing in a dorm at the Bryant and Stratton campus in Syracuse have been subjected to nightly attacks from bed bugs since October.  The students complain that the blood suckers make it difficult to live in the dorm room knowing that each night they are on the menu of a hungry insect.  The numerous bite marks throughout their bodies are proof of their plight.

One student claims that maintenance workers tried to kill the little vampires in the room by turning up the heat to 140 degrees.  While that temperature is hot enough to kill bed bugs and their eggs, it is unlikely that a dorm heating system was able to perform correctly as a bed bug heat killing unit.  Heat treatment can be very dangerous and should only be completed by a licensed pest control professional.

According to reports, one concerned parents called the Syracuse Codes Enforcement Office.  No official complaint was launched so no inspection of the facility has been completed.  The parents of the students are concerned that the bed bug problem is not being addressed properly.  If the bed bugs have been biting since October, they surely have moved into adjoining rooms by now.  The only way to fully eradicate bed bugs is to hire a licensed pest control professional with experience in bed bug eradication.
