Officials Hope That Tracking Bed Bugs Will Lead To Their Demise

They can’t fly and are not known to transmit diseases to humans or pets; however they are certainly an annoyance if you encounter them and even worse if you happen to bring them into your home.  Like many other areas in the United States, reports of bed bug infestations have reached epidemic proportions in the City of San Francisco report Monmouth County, NJ pest control professionals.

Because of the wide-spread bed bug problem that has been reported in rental properties, homeless shelters, and hotels in San Francisco, cries for new regulations to be developed and enforced by city officials have not fallen on deaf ears.

New regulations are now being set in place that will help the city face the epidemic.  According to the Pulse of the Bay on November 13, 2012, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance which will require exterminators to report where they are treating bed bugs in the city and the number of units which are infested by the bloodsuckers.  City officials are hoping that the information provided will give them a more accurate look at where the bed bugs are hiding within the city as there currently is no reliable data as to how bad the infestations are within the city.  Tenant advocates support the new ordinance as they believe that it will give a comprehensive accounting of the bed bug problem that tenants are facing in the city.

City officials are also hopeful that the new information will help to dispel the misconception that bed bugs happen to poor people in poor neighborhoods within the city.

Following suit with New York City’s regulations, the new ordinance will also require landlords and owners to disclose all bed bug infestation history in writing for the past two years, if the prospective tenant asks for such information.  Hotels and motels however are not required to disclose any bed bug information to patrons, even if asked.
