Ants are one of the most successful species of insects on the planet report pest control professionals in Ocean County, NJ.  These social creatures work together as a team to create large colonies.  Here are some interesting ant facts that set them apart from other insect species:

• There are millions of humans in the world, but millions more ants than there are in the world.

• The “slave-maker” ant invades other ant colonies and steals their pupae.  When those ants are born, they are then the “slaves” of the new colony where they are born.  The slave ants do not know that they are in the wrong colony or that they have been stolen and placed into slavery.

• Worker ants work both day and night.  They move eggs from the entrance of the nest to the back of the nest to keep the eggs warm.

• Ants are smart creatures boasting the largest brain of any other insect.

• Ants are fast moving creatures.  Army ants never slow down. They are constantly on the move from place to place.

• Ants are super strong for their tiny size.  Ants are able to lift twenty times their own body weight.

• All ants are not alike.  Each colony has their own scent so that they can tell when an intruder has approached.

• Ants use their antennae to feel and smell.  Their sense of smell is as good as a dog’s sense of smell. Despite being somewhat interesting, ants that invade your home or garden can become a huge annoyance.
