Go Away Stink Bugs!

The damage they have caused is done and the population explosion has occurred.  They are saying goodbye to your tomatoes, peppers, peaches, apples, and other delicious summertime fruits and vegetables.  Now it’s time for the brown marmorated stink bug to find a warm spot to spend it’s time during the frigid months until they can once again begin their springtime destruction.

At first sight, the small brown slow moving shield shaped bug might look benign, until you make the mistake of squishing it.  The stink bug has gained its name appropriately by the pungent stench that it emits when smashed or startled.  The stink bug is not native to the United States so it does not have any natural predators.  Birds, which typically delight in a variety of insects, steer clear of this stinky pest.  Only a few insects find the stink bug to be a tasty treat.

New Jersey pest control professionals report that since their arrival in Pennsylvania over 10 years ago, the brown marmorated stink bug has migrated across the entire eastern seaboard and are making their way west.  To date, they have made their presence known in 33 different states.  Entomologists are working on a variety of ways to control the massive amounts of these nuisance pests.

NJ pest control experts recommend that home and business owners check door and window frames for holes, check window screens to make sure that they are tight fitting, and any seal holes in exterior walls so that stink bugs will not be able to gain entrance.  Additionally, scheduling an exterior barrier treatment will help keep stink bugs out this winter season.  Allison Pest Control will gladly provide a free pest inspection and expert stink bug removal services for residents and businesses in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex Counties.  Call us today!
