Could It Be A Flea On Me?

If you have ever had a flea infestation problem or been bitten by fleas, you know how annoying these blood suckers can be. Fleas can be found on household pets and furry creatures that run through the yard.  Once an infestation occurs inside your living space, fleas will set up shop in carpets, sofas, pet beds, and even human beds.

Fleas have been around for millions of years.  Like other annoying pests, they feast on blood.  They prefer animal blood, but humans are their second choice for a good meal.

Fleas have a similar life cycle to the butterfly, but they are not so pretty and their bites will leave you scratching for days.  Female fleas lay eggs that turn into larvae.  The larvae develop into pupae and settle inside a little flea cocoon.  Fleas will wait inside their cocoon until a host (you, your pet, or other mammals) wonder by.  Once the pupae detects a warm body, they unzip their cocoon and jump onto their host.  The incredible process takes only three seconds!  A flea can jump as high as four feet to achieve this task so a kitty lounging on a couch, with a pupae in the carpet, does not stand a chance of avoiding a flea.

Female fleas can lay approximately 2,000 eggs in her lifetime, so it’s easy to see how fleas can quickly infest your home or yard.

Fleas can live 100 days without a blood meal, so packing up and running away from a flea infestation in your New Jersey home will do no good.  You must be diligent in your fight to get rid of fleas.  Fleas in all stages of their life cycle must be killed in order to rid your house of them completely. Let Allison Pest Control help you fight your flea war today!
