It’s Spring Break…NJ Pest Control Experts Warn Of Creepy Bed Bugs Part II Of II

Continuing from Wednesday…

• What To Do If You Find The Buggers:  If you find a bed bug, killing it doesn’t mean that you are out of the woods!  NJ pest control experts say that if there is one bed bug, there are likely many more waiting for the opportunity to obtain a blood meal.  It’s important to vacate the bed bug infested room immediately.  If at a hotel, ask to be moved as far away from the infested room as possible.  Avoid being above, below, or next to any room with an infestation as bed bugs will easily travel through the walls to feed on the next available person.  Remember to look for bed bugs in your new room too!

• Avoiding Bringing Creepy Bed Bugs Home:  Bed bugs are excellent hitchhikers.  According to New Jersey pest control professionals, even if you take every precaution to avoid the buggers, there is still a chance of picking up bed bugs somewhere along your travel adventure.  It only takes one pregnant female to cause an eventual full-blown bed bug infestation in your home or business.  Once you arrive home, if possible, unpack your belongings outdoors.   Bed bugs cannot withstand hot temperatures, so you should immediately wash all clothing (even the clean ones) in hot water and dry the clothing for at least 30 minutes on high heat.  All luggage, backpacks, purses, etc. should be carefully inspected and vacuumed just in case you have some bed bug stow-aways or any microscopic bed bug eggs in your belongings.  If you cannot unpack your luggage outdoors, using the bathtub or shower is a good alternate choice as bed bugs have a difficult time maneuvering on slick surfaces.  You should never unpack your luggage on your bed as it gives bed bugs an easy opportunity to set up house in your home.

Despite your best efforts, you might find yourself in need of a NJ pest control professional if you are unlucky enough to have brought the hitchhiking bloodsuckers home with you.  Allison Pest Control is pleased to offer bed bug eradication services to residents in Monmouth, Middlesex and Ocean Counties.
