What the Feds are Doing to Help NJ Combat Zika

Mosquito Diseases
The Spread of Zika

The threat of pregnant women catching the Zika virus has led the federal government to help New Jersey deal with the disease. To date, most of the help they have given has come in the form of grants from funds specifically set up to help states stop Zika from evolving into a major public health emergency.

Public Awareness Campaign

Earlier this summer, the CDC gave about $425,000 to the New Jersey Department of Health for a massive public awareness campaign aimed at disrupting mosquito breeding habits and increased laboratory testing. This campaign urged the public to remove common breeding areas for mosquitoes from around their homes. Our team at Allison Pest Control NJ agrees and considers this approach your first line of defense to reduce your risk of catching Zika.

Monitoring of Children Born to Zika-infected Mothers

At the beginning of August, New Jersey received half a million dollars, which will be used to expand monitoring services for children who are born to a mother infected with Zika at some point during her pregnancy. Public health officials warn that just because physical symptoms may not be present at birth, it’s still far too early to tell if a child will be developmentally healthy even if they don’t have signs of microcephaly.

Allison Pest Control NJ can help eliminate mosquitoes around your home, reducing the threat of Zika for all members of your family.
