- Clean drain pipes regularly, scrubbing to remove the slime that serves as the flies’ breeding ground. A stiff-bristled toilet brush and elbow grease may do the job if you clean your drains regularly; but you may need a metal plumbing brush to cut through the gunk if your drain is dirty.
- If necessary, remove the trap and use a plumbing snake to eliminate collected debris.
- Use a drain cleaner formulated to remove organic matter periodically to keep organic matter from building up. Apply cleaner around the edges of the drain so it coats the sides of the pipe as it flows down.
