The Feds Say No Way To Bed Bug Remedies

Like other types of products that are marketed for consumers, they may come and go with or without much hype.  Some however grab the attention of our government officials and spark an investigation of their claims of success.  With bed bug infestations being such a difficult pest to eradicate and one that causes victims considerable costs and aggravation, it is not surprising any product with claims of success against the pests would draw specific attention to itself.

Caveat emptor or buyers beware.  Like with all things in life…if it sounds too good to be true…it usually is!

The Washington Post reported on September 10, 2012 that federal regulators have charged two companies that have been marketing anti-bed bug products to consumers. The Federal Trade Commission claims that there is no evidence that the ingredients in “Rest Easy” and “Best Yet” will eliminate or prevent bed bugs from attacking.  Best Yet is marketed by Cedarcide Industries Inc. and Rest Easy by RMB Group LLC.  The products contain ingredients such as lemongrass, cedar oil and cinnamon, which have proven to be ineffective against bed bug infestations, claim the Federal Trade Commission.  The companies that are marketing and selling these products are considered to be using “deceptive advertising”.

RMB Group LLC has agreed to a settlement with the FTC; however, the case against Cedarcide is still ongoing.
