As has been the case each time that we have visited the islands, we encountered many different types of insects both inside and outside of the home. The worst outdoor insect on the island was by far…the mosquito. Always blood thirsty and ready to bite, the only safe place from these outdoor pests was sitting on the beach.
The worst indoor pest was without a doubt…the cockroach. They owners like to call them Palmetto bugs, but they were in fact American cockroaches. The roaches always came out at night in predictable fashion. The tropical island and constant stream of island guests has served as the perfect breeding ground for these hard to control pests.
In an effort to avoid bringing them home to New Jersey, we have left all luggage pieces on our front porch. All laundry, both clean and dirty, has been left outdoors and then washed and dried on hot temperatures. Each person’s personal belongings has been carefully inspected and wiped down to ensure that no cockroaches or their eggs will be transported indoors. Soft tote bags have been placed in the dryer and run on a high temperature and all other luggage will be bagged up and placed in the garage.
Cockroaches are nasty creatures that can enter your home at any time. If you’ve picked up cockroaches or any other creepy crawly creatures while traveling, contact Allison Pest Control.
