Troublesome Mice Can Invade At Any Time

The house mouse is a small furry creature that can live outdoors or indoors with great ease.  Typically gray in color, the house mouse can be a bit darker, and is not limited to living in just homes.  Restaurants, office buildings, subway stations, jails, hospitals, schools, etc. have all seen their share of these creepy critters running about report New Jersey pest control experts.

Mice will choose a place of residence based upon its ability to obtain three things…food, water, and shelter.  Mice can enter your home or business through tiny cracks or crevices that are ¼ inch or larger.  Garage doors, cables entering buildings, holes into the building, and vent screens also provide ample opportunity for mice to invade.  Because they have an excellent ability to climb great distances, mice can easily enter your home through roof vents, soffits, and even dormant chimneys.

Most of the time, unless an infestation is very bad, you won’t see actual mice running amuck, but you will see the tell-tale signs of their existence.  Mice tend to travel along the walls and will leave a trail of feces that look like small oval shaped black pellets.  Always in need to scale down their front teeth, you will often see gnaw marks on wood posts, furniture or cabinets when mice are present.  Outdoors, mice will build their nests in woodpiles, leaf piles, bricks, and stones.  Indoors, mice will build their nests in well hidden out-of-the-way places such as behind appliances, behind or under kitchen cabinets, inside closets, or even in drawers that are not often used.

Mice are scavengers and will eat most any type of food source that they can find.  Crumbs on the floor or cabinet and uneaten wet or dry pet food are easy targets for these pesky critters.  Boxed, bagged, and packaged food sources are no match for the massive strength of the teeth of mice.  Once they find their food source, they will not hesitate to rip it open eating as it chooses, and contaminating everything in their path!
