Ticks And Bed Bugs…NJ Pest Control Can Kill Them Part II Of II

Continuing from Friday…

Tick borne diseases occur worldwide and tick bites can cause serious and debilitating diseases in humans and pets.  Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and Ehrlichiosis are the most common diseases that are contracted by ticks in New Jersey.

Although tick prevention medication is available for pets, veterinarians are now reporting that many topical and ingestible medications are becoming resistant and ineffective against ticks.  Studies show that despite pets being on constant preventive medication, some pets have still suffered from Lyme disease.  Having your home protected with a barrier treatment to keep ticks away will help protect your pets and family members alike.

Industry experts say to wear protective clothing if you plan to be outdoors when at heightened tick time periods…during the spring, summer, and fall months.  It is recommended that people protect their body by wearing light colored clothing, long pants, long sleeves, socks and closed toe shoes.  This can be a difficult task with the hot summers of the east coast, so New Jersey pest control experts recommend using an insect repellant that contains DEET, permethrin, or picaridin while enjoying outdoor activities to avoid tick encounters.

Studies have shown that a tick must be attached to a human or animal for at least 24 hours in order for it to transmit a disease, so it’s critical to remove a tick early so that you can prevent the spread of infection.  Many doctors now recommend that you write down the date, time of the bite, tape the offending tick to a piece of paper and hold it for safe keeping.  If you happen to become ill in the following days or weeks, the tick can then be examined for the potential diseases.

New Jersey ticks can be avoided by hiring a licensed pest control expert who will be able to provide a protective barrier around your property to keep ticks away.
