\"\"<\/a>As bed bug infestations<\/a> continue to rage across the United States, it\u2019s not surprising that people become desperate in the quest to rid their homes of the pesky bloodsuckers that are attacking them while they sleep.\u00a0 In an effort to save money, or perhaps due to the lack of education about creepy bugs, some landlords facing a bed bug infestation may be tempted to use typical household pesticides to treat their bed bug infestation<\/a> problem.<\/p>\n

The Floyd County Health Department in Jeffersonville, IN was called to an apartment building when a tenant complained about the pesticides that their landlord was using to treat their bed bug infestation<\/a>.\u00a0 The health department\u2019s investigation revealed that the landlord combined three pesticides together to make a toxic bed bug killing combination.\u00a0 It was additionally discovered that the pesticides that were used indoors, were pesticides that were only deemed appropriate for use outdoors!\u00a0 To make matters worse, one of the apartments that were sprayed with the dangerous pesticide combination was occupied by a family with several small children.<\/p>\n

The families were forced to vacate the apartments pending chemical testing results.\u00a0 In addition, the Health Department has ordered the landlord to bleach the walls of the apartments to remove any toxic chemicals as well.\u00a0 Additionally, the landlord could face a fine by the City for the improper use of the pesticides.\u00a0 A representative from the Health Department says \u201cIn this case, the cure was worse than the disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

Combining pesticides to treat any type of pest is dangerous and can have toxic results.\u00a0 Using agricultural pesticides on the interior of a home is never advised as they are dangerous for humans and pets alike.<\/p>\n
