\"\"<\/a>Once thought to be primarily a New York City problem, New Jersey pest control experts<\/a>, and those all around the United States, have been working hard to fight what seems to be the never ending battle of bed bug infestations that are popping up.\u00a0 The bloodsuckers have shown no mercy as they are now reported in all 50 states.\u00a0 They can be found in a wide variety of locations such as apartments, movie theaters, retail stores, hospitals, homeless shelters, and senior citizen residential centers.\u00a0 Despite their typical nighttime nibbles, even businesses across New Jersey and the US are reporting an increase of bed bug infestations<\/a>.\u00a0 Simply put, bed bugs can be found wherever people congregate.<\/p>\n

Like New York City, for some reason the state of Ohio has a huge problem with bed bug infestations<\/a>.\u00a0 The problem is so bad that in 2010 Ohio\u2019s Governor, Ted Strickland, petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency for emergency help with fighting the blood suckers.\u00a0 Out of complete desperation he asked that the EPA grant the state permission to use the pesticide Propoxur for indoor use to treat the bed bugs that are plaguing the citizen throughout the state.\u00a0 After some consideration, the Environmental Protection Agency denied the request for indoor use because they believe that the chemical could have adverse effects on children.<\/p>\n

In an interesting turn of events, the Environmental Protection Agency will be allowing the use of Propoxur in the state\u2019s senior-citizen residential centers\u2026with limitations imposed.\u00a0 One limitation is that only one treatment can be made using the pesticide.\u00a0 Governor Strickland, who will be leaving office soon, would like Propoxur available for usage in houses, apartments, hotels and motels as well.\u00a0 According to the Columbus dispatch, Governor Strickland said the EPA\u2019s proposal would “inadequately treat one small extension of the problem rather than the root.”<\/p>\n

I must admit that treating just one type of facility, just one time, does seem like putting a bandage on a bad wound, but at least it\u2019s something. Perhaps the EPA will see how well Propoxur works and they will then allow more pest control experts<\/a> throughout the US an opportunity to use it on bed bug infestations<\/a> that continue to spread.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
