Public health officials are doing their best to lower the risk of the Zika virus in Monmouth County. The precautions they\u2019re taking include getting rid of above-ground pools on abandoned properties, which can serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Officials are also encouraging homeowners in the county to take steps to reduce mosquito populations in their own backyards. This includes getting rid of any sources of stagnant water, such as flower pots, and frequently changing water in bird baths.<\/p>\n
