Termite queens can live for decades if they have a well-protected colony that keeps them safe from predators. This long lifespan is unusual for insects in general, but it also helps explain why termite infestations tend to be large.<\/p>\n

Queens can lay two dozen or more eggs at a time, and they have the ability to lay them all throughout their life. That can add up to a considerably large number of new termites<\/a> produced over a queen\u2019s decades-long lifespan.<\/p>\n

Termite eggs are big enough to see, but they can be hard to find since they\u2019re typically in underground nests or other locations that provide them with plenty of shelter.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that spotting eggs doesn\u2019t necessarily indicate an infestation in the home. Seeing adult termites swarm is considered a definite sign of an infestation, though. It\u2019s important to have infestations cleared up quickly to prevent structural damage.<\/p>\n
