They’re little and they’re interesting to watch but do you want them infesting your home? Ladybugs<\/a> are the perfect house cleaner in the garden where they’ll do a great job of keeping aphids under control.<\/p>\n

These tiny wonders have been around since the Middle Ages and today, there are nearly 4,000 variations in different shell colors and spot patterns. As cute as they are, if they become aggravated or disturbed, they secrete a not pleasant smelling fluid to let predators know they may look good but they taste awful.<\/p>\n

During the fall, ladybugs are found outdoors in a variety of areas such under rocks or fallen tree limbs, piles of leaves, or stored wood. They gather in large colonies of several hundred in these places to hibernate and protection against upcoming winter weather.<\/p>\n

The ladybug population is growing which means more are looking for warm places during the winter. Ladybugs lay between 10 to 50 eggs at a time with eggs hatching about 5 days later.<\/p>\n

With the population increasing, your home can become a winter hideaway. Because of their tiny structure, they fit through cracks and crevices with ease. Two of their favorite hibernation destinations are crawl spaces and the ever-popular attic.<\/p>\n
