What they look like: <\/strong>About 1\/2″ long, and either black or black and red. They have a smooth, round thorax (the upper body part next to the head) and bent antennae.<\/p>\n

Where they nest: <\/strong>Anywhere with moisture and protection. They often nest in wood structures but can also be found in insulation, bathroom tiles, and throughout the home.<\/p>\n

The damage they cause<\/strong>: Carpenter ants<\/a>\u00a0chew up wood but do not eat it. Their wood destruction consists of long, thin grooves \u2014 as if someone carved neat lines and brushed away the sawdust.<\/p>\n
