While these insects are definitely based on land, not water, their bodies do have a silvery-grey cast. The major identifying characteristics are the two overlong antennae on their head along with the three filaments extending from their abdomen. Like many household pests, silverfish tend to be nocturnal. They prefer damp, dark spaces<\/a> so they’re often found in bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms.<\/p>\n

There are no health risks associated with silverfish, but that doesn’t mean they’re harmless. They feed on paste and can cause a great deal of damage to books and wallpaper.
