WHEC.com reported on June 2, 2013<\/a> that a massive live red oak tree fell in East Rochester, New York.\u00a0 It was reported that the tree came crashing down upon a car which was traveling down the street.\u00a0 Of the two people inside of the car, sadly one perished at the scene and one was treated and released at a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n

According to residents in the areas, a big crack was heard and then a car horn.\u00a0\u00a0Everyone was shocked to find the enormous tree lying on its side, reaching across the street.\u00a0 A local tree expert believes that carpenter ants hollowed out the interior of the tree which then caused the mighty oak to become unstable.\u00a0 The wet spring coupled by windy days could have also played a part in the tree falling.\u00a0 The tree expert points out that it is not uncommon for a tree to look normal when carpenter ant infestations occur.\u00a0 From the exterior, buds can bloom and leaves will grow.\u00a0 Despite the regrowth of a tree, carpenter ants can easily reside inside of the trunk, ripping apart the tree inch by inch, which will lead to its ultimate demise.<\/p>\n
