Squirrels. You picture a cute animal with a fluffy tail, carrying an acorn in it’s tiny paws. Then, you remember how many times you’ve swerved trying to miss one in the road. Or how many times dog has chased one. Or hearing a family of them in your attic. Squirrels can be a nuisance.<\/p>\n

There are more than 200 squirrel species<\/a> in the world, ranging in a variety of sizes. The African pygmy squirrel is five inches from nose to tail. That’s the height of a soda can! The Indian giant squirrel is three feet long. Think about a yardstick- that’s how long three feet is. Most of us, however, are familiar with common tree squirrels.<\/p>\n

Squirrels are part of the rodent family. They have four front teeth that don’t wear down because they gnaw all the time. Tree squirrels are often seen scampering around or leaping from branch to branch. Ground squirrels live in tunnel systems where they hibernate during winter. They eat nuts, plants, seeds and small animals and insects. However, they have to be aware of predators, as they have a hard time fighting them off and they do make a tasty treat for a larger animal.<\/p>\n
