Identifying Flying Squirrels in New Jersey<\/strong><\/p>\n

We see two species in the area around Ocean County and Monmouth County: the Northern and Southern flying squirrels. The Southern flying squirrel<\/a> is actually most common in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

These creatures look much like small ground squirrels but have a membrane of skin that can expand like a cape to help them fly. They glide through the air by getting a running start and extending their arms and legs outward to catch the air with their webbed limbs.<\/p>\n
