\"\"<\/a>Traveling is great and coming home is oftentimes even better.\u00a0 I\u2019ve just returned from a much anticipated vacation with my family.\u00a0 North Carolina is known for their pristine beaches, warm water, and southern hospitality.\u00a0 The North Carolina shoreline areas are considered to be \u201ctropical islands\u201d.\u00a0 As such, visitors tend to encounter many insects.<\/p>\n

As has been the case each time that we have visited the islands, we encountered many different types of insects both inside and outside of the home.\u00a0 The worst outdoor insect on the island was by far\u2026the mosquito<\/a>.\u00a0 Always blood thirsty and ready to bite, the only safe place from these outdoor pests was sitting on the beach.<\/p>\n

The worst indoor pest was without a doubt\u2026the cockroach.\u00a0 They owners like to call them Palmetto bugs, but they were in fact American cockroaches<\/a>. The roaches always came out at night in predictable fashion.\u00a0 The tropical island and constant stream of island guests has served as the perfect breeding ground for these hard to control pests.<\/p>\n

In an effort to avoid bringing them home to New Jersey, we have left all luggage pieces on our front porch.\u00a0 All laundry, both clean and dirty, has been left outdoors and then washed and dried on hot temperatures.\u00a0 Each person\u2019s personal belongings has been carefully inspected and wiped down to ensure that no cockroaches or their eggs will be transported indoors.\u00a0 Soft tote bags have been placed in the dryer and run on a high temperature and all other luggage will be bagged up and placed in the garage.<\/p>\n
