Like many other bloodsucking insects, female mosquitoes are the only creatures that seek out a blood meal.\u00a0 Because their source of food is derived from birds and humans alike, a mosquito is likely to become infected with a blood-borne virus from a bird that it bites.\u00a0 Once it bites a human, the virus that the female is carrying is then transmitted onto its next victim.<\/p>\n

Worldwide, mosquitoes<\/a> kill more humans than all other types of insects combined.\u00a0 Common viruses that mosquitoes transmit to humans are Dengue Fever, Encephalitis, Yellow Fever, and West Nile Virus.\u00a0 People who are over 50 years old, young children, and those with chronic illnesses should take special care to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.<\/p>\n
