Science Daily<\/a> released \u00a0that a study was recently conducted at homes along the Texas-Mexico border. The study was conducted by the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.<\/p>\n

Women in their third trimester of pregnancy were sought out for this particular study. The women were between 18 and 35 years old, with no serious health problems. The women were asked a variety of questions about pesticide use, pesticide exposure, if and when they detected pesticides or odors drifting in from the fields, and how close they lived to agricultural areas.<\/p>\n

Samples from the women\u2019s homes revealed a shocking level of pesticide exposure. According to their finding \u201cNinety-two percent of the air samples contained o-phenylphenol, which is used as a fungicide, germicide and household disinfectant, while 80 percent included chlorpyrifos, employed in agriculture to kill mosquitoes and other pests. Propoxur, present in granular baits, pet collars and other products, showed up in 76 percent of samples, along with the insecticide diazinon in 72 percent. The herbicide trifluralin turned up in 60 percent of samples.\u201d<\/p>\n
