\"\"<\/a>Earwigs<\/a> are medium sized insects compared to some other types of creatures.\u00a0 They have dark elongated bodies and are super-fast runners.\u00a0 They have strange looking pinchers off of their rear end, which they will cock up when they feel threatened or afraid report pest control experts in Ocean County, NJ<\/a>.\u00a0 The pinchers look menacing, but in actuality they are completely harmless.\u00a0 Some earwigs have small and simple wings, some do not.\u00a0 The wings serve no purpose as they are small and underdeveloped.\u00a0 Earwigs are garden scavengers which are most active at night. They sometimes enter homes as they are attracted by bright lights.<\/p>\n

The earwig name comes from an old myth that these strange looking insects would climb into people\u2019s ears where they would supposedly lay their eggs.\u00a0 Some people even believed that they would tunnel deep into people\u2019s brains!\u00a0 It has been reported in recent years that earwigs have been found to indeed climb into the ears of humans.\u00a0 Scientists believe that they have done this as a means of escaping cold weather when they cannot reach their normal nesting grounds that are six feet underground when it is cold.<\/p>\n

One of the strangest facts about the male earwig is that it has two penises, both of which are larger than the insect\u2019s entire body.\u00a0 For some evolutionary reason, this insect is blessed with two of these organs, but it should be noted, that their penis does at times tend to snap off during the mating ritual.<\/p>\n
