Poisoned by Inappropriately Used Pest Control Chemicals?

Poison is Poison
Poison is Poison

When you’re having your home to have it treated for ants, roaches or other pests, making sure it’s done safely and correctly is crucial. If not, you and your family could be exposed to harmful chemicals that can cause serious health problems.

One family from Delaware experienced this recently on a trip to the US Virgin Islands. The Esmond family became ill on their first night’s staying in a second floor condo and had to be airlifted to hospitals in Philadelphia and Delaware for treatment. Authorities believe the seizures and other symptoms that left three of the family members in critical condition were caused by unsafe pest control methods. The first floor condo below the Esmonds had been sprayed with methyl bromide on the same day the family arrived for their stay. The use of this chemical, which has been banned for indoor residential pest control since 1984, has prompted the EPA to open up an investigation into this incident.

The Esmond family’s unfortunate experience illustrates the importance of making sure pest control methods for residential properties are as safe as possible. Using banned chemicals or applying toxic chemicals while residents are in the home can have serious and potentially life-threatening effects.
