Flies and Pantry Pests Can Spread Disease and Ruin Food Stores

Flies are often considered major nuisances in kitchen areas, but don’t forget about pantry pests. Our NJ pest control services can eliminate these bugs from your home if you have any of the following:

Mealworms

Mealworms are dark brown or black bugs that grow to be about a half-inch long as adults. They feed mainly on dried grain products that have developed mold or become damp. Mealworms lay their eggs in these products, and adults are usually seen around these areas. Although these bugs aren’t considered a health threat, they damage the products they infest.

Flour Beetles

Flour beetles are reddish-brown bugs that are roughly one-eighth of an inch in length. They lay their eggs in dry grain flours, such as cookies and cake mix. There are two different types of flour beetles: confused flour beetles don’t fly, while red flour beetles are able to fly.

Indian Meal Moths

These moths have silvery wings and a reddish body. They grow to be around a quarter of an inch long and are weak fliers. Indian meal moths lay their eggs in food materials, particularly dried foods of plant origins. They’re not a health threat, but they ruin food supplies.
