West Nile Virus Proven To Be A Killer In 2012! Part 2 Of 2

Continuing from Wednesday…

Each year there are reports of cases of West Nile Virus popping up in various areas of the United States.  ABC News reported on August 21, 2012 that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 20 percent of the people who are infected with West Nile Virus will only exhibit mild symptoms.  Fever, muscle weakness, headache, nausea, and vomiting are common occurrences.  Some people suffer from a rash and swollen lymph nodes in addition to the flu-like symptoms.  Mild symptoms could last for days to weeks depending on the person.  Some lucky people will contract the virus and have no signs of being infected.

The summer of 2012 has proven to be causing trouble for residents in many areas in the States of Texas, Mississippi, South Dakota, Louisiana, and Oklahoma as mosquito populations have exploded out-of-control.  In Dallas County, Texas, there have been 16 confirmed deaths and 262 confirmed cases of West Nile Virus reported.  Because of the massive mosquito outbreak, many county and state officials in Texas as well as many other States have decided to conduct aerial spraying of known mosquito areas in hopes of combatting the bloodsuckers before they claim more victims.

According to the CDC, as of August 23, 2012, there have been 1,118 cases of West Nile Virus reported thus far in 47 states.  Residents in every state are being asked to use precaution when spending time outdoors, especially during dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are more likely to bite.
